It's been about 2 months since I've posted due to lack of internet and in some cases news but the one thing that I made sure to follow up on every few days was the lovely Demi Lovato.

As you all know, Demi spent some time in a safe environment to deal with her depression, self image and overall health. Since leaving treatment she has been hard at work keeping herself and young girls like her healthy and fit. She became a contributing editor at Seventeen Magazine to spread her "Love is Louder" campaign, got a new album Unbroken all ready for us, tweeted a beautiful picture of her healthy bikini body, accessorized her phone with a Sober is Sexy sticker saying "Heroin Killed the Radio Star", gave a very personal interview to 20/20 about her struggles, won back the press, healed her broken friendships and topped it all off by putting on a sparkly silver dress to walk the red carpet at the VMA's.

Now I didn't watch the VMA's; I have no cable. I did however, see some rather nasty messages on twitter about Demi's shape. So what do I do? I look for pictures. I find this.
Is she bigger than before? Yes. Does she look different? Yes. Is she healthy? Yes. Now I have heard all that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" and whatnot, but this isn't a question of beauty, it's a question of cruelty.

I think she looks absolutely beautiful; she's tan, she's glowing, she's smiling, she's living. It's a big change from some previous outings. But whether you agree with me or not, how can you say that she looks "fat" or "ugly" knowing what she's been through? If a man lived on the street for twenty years saving his money for a house when he finally got one you wouldn't burn it down. You wouldn't make gun or explosion noises around a soldier with PTSD. If a women fell from a high building and lived, you wouldn't push her off again as soon as she was over it. How can you tell a women who has almost killed herself to be skinny and finally beaten it that she's fat?

I know, I know, haters gon hate, but the thing is a lot of the people who were saying things about her weight were also saying they liked Demi. This is a contradictory statement to me. Let's look at the girl who said Demi's arms were looking a little "chunky". When she was attacked by Demi's supporting fans she claimed that she liked Demi. I don't believe her. You don't try to kill the people you like. If you like someone, by definition, you don't want them dead, or sick, or any of the horrible things that can happen.

I love Demi even more for being open about her weight issues and allowing herself to be attacked by these people. She truly is strong and is inspiring thousands to be strong with her. She is proving to the world that "healthy" and "skinny" aren't always synonymous. Let's all forget beautiful for a minute and just be healthy and happy.

And remember: Criticizing other people's weight won't change yours.

Congratulations Demi. Stay Strong.

Glee Graduating 6/27/11

Lady Gaga is being sued by 1-800-LAW-FIRM because of her Japanese earthquake relief bracelets saying she took home some of the proceeds. An attorney for the law firm said "I'm suing Lady Gaga simply to hold her accountable for giving the money that she was raising for charity to the cause that she was trying to raise it for." Gaga reportedly exaggerated costs and kept more than her initial investment. The law firm has filed a class action lawsuit and is requesting that anyone who bought a bracelet join. Each bracelet cost about 10$, 60 cents of which were taxes and 3.99$ for shipping and handling fees.

Miley Cyrus was grabbed on stage by a fan at a concert last week. She was unharmed but pretty shaken up. The girl apparently jumped from a balcony over the stage and ran up behind Miley just as she was finishing her song. Security was right behind to drag the girl away, but she clung to Miley's arm. She quickly shook the girl off as security came back to help Miley off stage. She seemed very surprised and muttered "Oh my God!" into the microphone. You can see her performance and the surprise attack here.

Prince is fed up with piracy. He is refusing to record any new music until piracy is better controlled. I wouldn't expect new music anytime soon given the current state of things. (Beyonce did just have her entire album leaked.)

Adele has rescheduled her North American tour. She will hit the road in August then take a month off, probably to rest her voice again, and then continue in October. In the meantime, she has been advised by her doctors to not smoke, sing or speak for a month.

Rihanna is being sued again for her 'S&M' video, this time by photographer Phillip Paulus. He has claimed copyright infringement. A series of his photos called "paperworld" feature a woman stuck on a wall under a sheet of plastic with black x's on it, much like Rihanna in her newspaper dress.

Some shocking news about Glee has been released: the glee club is graduating! Season 4 will have a whole new cast of students. Jane Lynch and Matthew Morrison will return however. Also, There may be a spin-off in the works following one or more of the graduates, there hasn't been an official report yet though. Season 3 will return in September with the cast you know and love, but will be saying goodbye in 2012.

Something happening in the music industry you want me to address? Everyone remembers that partial outfit she wore to Justin Bieber's "Never Say Never" premiere and the concert storm that had her flashing her chest at show after show, but now she has taken to wearing almost nothing. Last week she was seen out in a t-shirt, jacket and white platforms. No pants. She also greeted fans and then performed in a shirt (more of a vest) she slashed holes in herself. She opted to cover herself only with a few strips of electrical tape. It appears the actress-turned-rocker is getting more attention for her outfits than her music these days. She does front the band The Pretty Reckless and was just announced as the face of the Japanese clothing line Samantha Thavasa.

Lady Gaga premiered her music video for "Edge of Glory" taking her back to her roots. The video was very simple featuring her dancing in the streets as well as the late Clarence Clemons playing the saxophone on a stoop. Joesph Khan, who Gaga had hired, says he did NOT direct the video but that Lady Gaga directed it herself, choosing a different direction. See her new video here. Gaga also announced that she will be hitting the road in 2012 for her Born This Way tour.

The Rock'n'Roll hall of fame has put Lady Gaga's meat dress in the Women who Rock: Vision, Passion, Power exhibit. The dress was kept in a meat locker and then treated to preserve it and left to dry on a mannequin.

Eminem commented on his Gaga slam saying it was just a joke he had in head and he wanted to share it with the world. He went on to say she was an incredible talent and "dope".

Madonna will be back in the studio next month working on a new album. She reportedly already has an idea of producers and artists she'd like to work with, and she's ready to start work. One thing is for sure, if it's coming from Madonna, it will be awesome.

Dexter Isaac wrote a letter confessing to being the shooter in Tupac's murder. He is currently serving life on several charges. In the letter Isaac claims that Jimmy Rosemond, a former associate of Tupac, hired him and payed him $2,500 for the job. Rosemond's lawyer responded saying it was a "flat out lie" and that Isaac knew people would listen and is hoping to get out of his life sentence.

Former Nsync member Lance Bass is planning a new boy band competition for Vh1. He has assembled Backstreet Boys member A.J. McLean, Nsync member Joey Fatone, New Kids on the Block member Joe McIntyre, and New Edition member Bobby Brown to act as coaches and put together their own boy bands who will then compete to see who's the best, as much as the coaches will be competing for bragging rights. It should all be quite fun. Lance has also sold 5 other reality TV shows as of late.

Something happening in the music industry you want me to address? The vid begins with Katy's alter ego Kathy Beth Terry waking up and having no idea what happened the night before when Glee's Darren Criss comes running in to thank her for the party. As the video goes on we see Kevin McHale, Kenny G, Hanson, Corey Feldman, and Debbie Gibson as Tiffany Terry. It was definitely entertaining and worth all eight minutes.

Beyonce's entire album "4" leaked three weeks ahead of schedule popping up all over the internet. Although her team has been desperately working to take the songs down, B isn't taking the angry approach saying: "My music was leaked and while this is not how I wanted to present my new songs, I appreciate the positive response from my fans. When I record music I always think about my fans singing every note and dancing to every beat. I make music to make people happy and I appreciate that everyone has been so anxious to hear my new songs." B's new album is still scheduled to drop June 28th.

Glee star Chris Colfer has signed a book deal. He's never written a novel before, but has been writing scripts lately. His first book is expected to be released sometime around next summer and to be titled "The Land of Stories". He says the story has been at the core of his imagination for nearly 10 years and he's very excited to share it.

Selena Gomez was taken to the hospital Thursday night after taping an episode of The Tonight show with Jay Leno. She said she had a bad headache and felt nauseous. Naturally, the pregnancy rumors have spread like wildfire, but reps so them coming and are quick to shoot them down. Selena was seen returning to the hospital Saturday afternoon when she reportedly underwent blood pressure tests. She has rescheduled the canceled events to begin today. Let's hope she's feeling better.

Coldplay, who have had many plagiarism accusations in the past, have been accused yet again, for plagiarizing their new single "Every Teardrop is a Waterfall". Similarities between it and Mystic's "Ritmo de la Noche" which is a newer version of Allen and Anderson's "I Go to Rio", popped up within hours of it's release. Apparently the song was inspired while watching the move "Biutiful" which has a nightclub scene with "Ritmo de la Noche" playing in the background. A spokesperson for the band says Allen and Anderson are credited as writers of "Every Teardrop is a Waterfall". Sounds like they may be off the hook this time.

Justin Timberlake leaves fans upset by saying he can't see himself ever recording another album. He has recently been focusing his career on the business side of music as well as acting, which he is fantastic at. And he's not the only one, Nicki Minaj wants to do some acting as well. She actually went to acting school and is planning to focus on acting when Britney's Femme Fatale tour ends. She says she would love to work with Will Smith and have a serious acting career. Good luck to them both.

Also, I hear Lady Gaga has hired a director for "The Edge of Glory" music video. She has chosen Joseph Kahn. We should be hearing more about the new video very soon.

Talented Women Hiding in the Auto-tuned Closet.

A lot of things have been known to annoy me, but one thing I just can't stand is when talented women block their talent. For example, the darling Selena Gomez released her single "Bang Bang Bang" this week and I'm sorry to say it doesn't even sound like her. It's been so auto-tuned and edited that you can barely understand the words, not to mention the music is so electronic it drowns everything else out. Now I love Selena, I really do, and I've never been a big fan of her music, but this is a little too much. It got me thinking about all the truly talented women that don't utilize their full talents.

Ke$ha does it. She was in choir in high school, she was talented, now all her voice tracks are put through a machine. Lady Gaga is truly talented, but she edits her songs in such a way and uses her music videos to draw attention to herself instead of her music. And it's not just auto tune. Fabulous, powerful, talented women like Beyonce take their clothes off and prance around when it's not even necessary.

Shakira is a very talented and well respected singer, but is seen pole dancing in music videos. Fergie is beautiful and talented but her outfits take the attention away from her music.

Possibly the one that makes me saddest is Rihanna. When things like her recent conflict with the Parents Television Council come up, it's hard to take either side. She made an important song "Man Down" and a video to match it, but had it banned, but her videos for things like "S&M", "Rockstar 101" and "Rude Boy" aren't challenged.

These are all gimmicks of pop machines created by record companies for temporary milking, but they are being used by strong, talented young women. What's worse then these women denying themselves of true talent is that they are teaching young girls that no matter how powerful, talented or beautiful you are, distracting gimmicks are the only way to be popular and successful.

I feel like it's almost disrespectful to appreciate the things these women do. It's like saying "You're only good when you're shaking something and singing through a machine." My goal has always been to put a positive spin on things, but sometimes things are important. My positive spin is hoping that this message will reach enough people and teach them to appreciate what's good instead of flashy, and that these women will get the respect they deserve.

Lady Gaga banned from Lebanon 6/7/11

It was a GaGa heavy news week (isn't it always?) and most of it was less than wonderful news. Here's what's going on:

May 23rd Lady Gaga released her second album "Born This Way" and sold over 1 million copies in the first week, which is good; but Amazon has reportedly lost around 3 million U.S dollars. They paying about nine dollars for licensing and selling digital copies for only 99 cents! Lady Gaga however says she applauds them for recognizing the value of a digital copy versus a physical copy. But that's not all; the new album that had already been banned from Malaysia for "promoting homosexuality" has now been banned from Lebanon. The General Secretary Department banned the sale of digital and physical copies saying it's "offensive to Christianity" and officials have impounded thousands of copies.

To top it all off, rap duo Bad Meets Evil (Eminem and Royce Da 5'9) is back and their new song "A Kiss" calls out some popular artists including Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Justin Bieber. Saying "Tell Lady Gaga she can quit her job at the post office/ she's still a mail lady" in typical Eminem fashion. Is this line funny or mean?

Congratulations to Carey Hart and Pink who welcomed baby girl Willow Sage Hart on June 2nd. Pink tweeted that she was "Beautiful, healthy and happy" and "gorgeous just like her daddy".

Adele, who recently canceled five dates on her North American tour due to laryngitis, has now announced that a weeks rest did not help and she has canceled the whole thing. The singer says she is "really frustrated" and there is nothing she can do but "take the doctors advice and rest some more". She is however planning to reschedule the entire tour later this year when she is healed. Let's hope she has a speedy recovery.

Glee's Naya Rivera got a record deal with Columbia making her the 3rd Glee star to sign with a record label, but they've signed with different labels. Matthew Morrison signed with Mercury Records and Mark Salling with independent label Pipe Dream Records. This makes me wonder if at some point there will be limits on them performing together. Let's hope not.

At the MTV movie awards host Jason Sudeikis brought attention to Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber's relationship telling Selena to be careful and adding "she already swallowed like 3 of his baby teeth, I don't want you to choke". Selena laughed and blushed and covered her face. The small joke that seemed to pass instantly for Sel triggered an emotional response from twitter fans of Justin. Most of them tweeting with the hashtag #PoorSelena. She didn't seem to poor while she was laughing and enjoying the show.

Speaking of Selena's oh-so-famous boyfriend, Justin Bieber showed up at the MTV movie awards sporting some new jewelry-- Black stud earrings in both ears. Awesome or awkward?

Joe Jonas released his first solo single "See No More" Friday. The responses have been very mixed between fans who love it and shocked fans who aren't so sure yet. It's definitely a big step away from his previous Jonas Brothers music. He collaborated on this song with Chris Brown. He's going for more of a dance beat focusing on the music. You can listen to the song here.

A rough cut of Justin Bieber and Chris Brown's video for "Next 2 U" was leaked today and it seems to be following the trends of all other music videos recently. It's long and it has a post apocalyptic aspect. It's about 8 minutes and keep in mind that it's a rough cut, but you can check out the leak here.

That's what's happening this week.

Hear something you want me to cover? As you may know, music is kinda my thing. You may also know that The Plain White T's are also kinda my thing. I am not one of those people who love the singles but never bother to look up the band. "Hey There Delilah" was not the first PWT song I heard. Stop is one of my favorite albums. "Figure It Out" is my favorite song. "Natural Disaster" makes my life every time I hear it. (which is often, by the way.) And I could go on and on. I will spare you all my opinions, but I feel I should say: Being a long time Plain White T's fan, I am slightly horrified at the single "Rhythm of Love".

This song, (can it be called that?) this musical thing, is certainly NOT the rhythm of love. If you are looking for that, I suggest "Write You A Song" off Every Second Counts. The sickly sweet single is a let down after the previous albums, but the style isn't the only thing causing the problem. The song has a serious lack of Tom.

Tom Higgenson's voice as well as his writing, are very important to a PWT song. But this song was written by the guitarist Tim Lopez, which wouldn't be so awful, except for the fact that Tim Lopez sings it. Every time I hear this song on the radio, I say "Why Tom? Why?" So with the release of their 6th CD "The Wonders of the Younger" just around the corner, I am a little nervous about what other surprises may be in store, but I assure you, I will buy that CD in hopes that Tom will see the error of his ways and sing for me once more.

I feel that I should inform you that I am in fact, NOT delusional, I am merely a fan who talks to much and has an odd sense of humor.

9-16-92

Today is a very special day. Some of you may not know why. I mean, it's just another day right? Not to me. For seven years, this day has meant more to me than other days. Here's why.

On this day (September 16th) eighteen years ago, a boy was born in Texas. He was just like any other child. His mother and father named him Nicholas. He had two older brothers to look after him, and a family that loved him. His father was a preacher and musician, so Nicholas was raised in good faith and music. By the time he was two, Nicholas was standing on a table outside his apartment and singing his heart out. Maybe he was born to be a performer. Music was just part of him.

In 2000, Nicholas was on Broadway. He was performing in show after show and he loved it. In 2003 he was in "Les Miserables" as Gavroche, and he said he would be back one day to play Marius. He started a singing career and formed a very successful band with his brothers. It seemed that everything was perfect, but it wasn't. Nicholas started to get very sick. He was losing weight, drinking way to much water, and he was really irritable. His parents took him to the doctor to find out what was wrong with him.

Nick Jonas was diagnosed with Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes in November of 2005. He was 13 years old. He was scared; he wondered if he would die. He was kept in the hospital for a few days to make sure he was okay and so he could learn how to manage his blood sugar. The day he got out of the hospital, he played a show. That night he decided he wasn't going to let this disease slow him down.

Since being diagnosed, Nick has had multiple platinum albums and tours with his brothers, a solo project resulting in an album and his own tour, several movies, a T.V. show, and was Marius in the 2010 production of "Les Miserables" in London. He started a charity with his brothers and teamed up with Bayer to help kids. He hasn't let diabetes slow him down, and more importantly, he's encouraged kids all over the world to live their dreams. He has inspired more people than he knows. Earlier this month, Nick met a girl with Cerebral Palsy who underwent physical therapy to learn to walk. Her motivation for walking was simply to hug Nick. She wanted to be able to walk up to her hero.

I love this day because 18 years ago, a hero was born. An extremely talented, sweet boy who has changed millions of lives. I'm proud to call myself a fan of his. I'm proud to say I've been to 3 Jonas Brothers concerts and 1 Nick Jonas and the Administration show. I'm not gonna lie, I probably have 100 posters of him from those teen magazines, and a really old poster from "It's About Time" over my piano along with a very recent poster from Camp Rock 2. When things get frustrating or difficult, I think about everything Nick has overcome, and I push on.

What I really want to say is, Happy birthday Nick. You are truly amazing, and I'm so proud of you. Keep changing lives and making music. I love you.

-MMN

VMA's 2010 a.k.a. The year NOTHING happened.

So, as everyone knows, the MTV Video Music Awards were last night, and they were a little disappointing. There were no scandals, no fights. It was really quite boring. It was like a regular award show.

The show opened with Eminem and Rihanna singing "Love the Way You Lie", and ending their performance by giving each other a big hug. Eminem then had to leave because he has a performance in New York today. He won several awards, but wasn't there to accept them.

Justin Bieber pulled up and was chased to the stage by a pack of teenage girls. (Big Surprise) He performed "Baby" and "Somebody to Love". He attempted to play the drums and dropped his drum stick. A popular youtube web show "What The Buck" had a message for Justin: "Step away from the drums! You sir are no Nick Jonas." A statement I couldn't help but agree with. (You can watch his recap HERE) Justin won the "Best new artist" award and was all ready to accept it, but seemed to have some trouble finding the stage. He walked around for a minute looking all around him for the stairs, but he did finally make it up to accept his moon man.

New developments in the never ending Taylor Swift/Kanye West war have fans of Taylor out raged. Both stars had very different performances last night, starting with Taylor. Her performance went as well as can be expected. It was a slower ballad of a song off her new CD. The song "Still an Innocent" was very possibly directed at Kanye as a "forgiveness song" with lines like "Who you are is not what you did, you're still an innocent". Then Kanye took the stage suggesting we have "Toast to the scumbags". His song that was so NOT was Taylor was singing about started a whole new round of insults to Kanye. Will this constant battle ever end?

The big award of the night "Video of the Year" went to a rather interestingly dressed Lady GaGa. She was wearing a dress that looked to be made of meat, with a matching purse and hat. In the moments before the winner was announced, GaGa was looking ill and I was worried about her heart. When Cher (in a stranger outfit then GaGa's) announced that "Bad Romance" had won, GaGa took the stage with her head held high. She took her moon man and handed Cher her purse, starting her speech with "I never thought I would be asking Cher to hold my meat purse." She was crying and explaining that she was so scared she would let her fans down and she was so proud to have all her little monsters. Through all her tears of joy (and possibly fear) she managed to keep her promise to announce the title of her new album "Born This Way" and sing a very strong a capella performance of the title track. She proudly sang "I'm beautiful in my way, cuz God makes no mistakes. I'm on the right track, baby I was born this way."

On a more interesting note, Lady GaGa's dates (there were 4 of them!) were all lovely people affected by the Don't Ask, Don't Tell ruling in Cali. GaGa walked the carpet with David Hall, (former Air Force Sgt.) Mike Almy, (former Air Force Major) Stacy Vasquez, (former Army Sgt. First Class) and Katie Miller (former West Point cadet) around her.

In these few short paragraphs I have covered everything even close to a scandal. Congratulations Chelsea, you tamed the wild award show. Congratulations to all the winners.
My favorite part of the night was when GaGa sang "Born This Way". What was yours?

I'm out. <3 -MMN

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://my-musical-notes.blogspot.com/2010/09/vmas-2010-aka-year-nothing-happened.html' title='VMA's 2010 a.k.a. The MTV Video Music Awards are this Sunday and the nominations are a bit of a shocker. Let's jump in shall we?
(To see all the Nominees, performers, and presenters click HERE.)

The nominations include Katy Perry, Ke$ha, and Beyonce, no surprise there. Eminem is the leading male this year, his new video "Not Afraid" picked up 8 nominations, including "Video of the Year". Lady GaGa, however, is leading the pack with 11 nominations for her "Telephone" and "Bad Romance" videos. In a few circumstances both videos have been nominated for the same award. It's pretty safe to say that all three of these videos will come out with at least 1 award.

But wait a minute, something is missing. Two things actually, but what...? Oh yes, a rather tall, blonde girl and a rather short, young boy. Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber.

Taylor Swift, you know, that girl with so many Grammys she can break a few? That girl with the best selling album of 2009? That album that was released in 2008 and is STILL winning her new awards? Maybe you know her best from last years VMA's when Kanye West volunteered his opinion on her first (and last?) VMA award. Yes her. She has only 1 nomination this time around. Her video for "Fifteen" is up for "Female Video of the Year", the same award her "You Belong With Me" video was up for last year. Recipe for catastrophe? We'll see.

And Justin Bieber, the latest teen sensation, only picked up one nomination. For "Best New Artist" his video for "Baby" has been nominated. I am.

WOAH. First of all, if this post comes off as rude to some "bieber" type fans, GOOD. Today, (by which I mean 3 o'clock in the morning) I am very angry, and very defensive. If you follow me on twitter/formspring/youtube then you probably know that I am a HUGE Jonas supporter. Also, an obsessed Nick Jonas fan. While struggling to write this post nicely, I am shifting between this screen and my desktop, which is a picture of Nick. The problem is, I can't write this post nicely. There is nothing nice to say. There is nothing to defend on the other side.

So here we go, I got on twitter to find that everyone was calling out "beliebers" <-- Stupid name, yes I know. I began asking questions. I discovered that some of these so called "beliebers" were not only terrorizing the Jonas fans in another "my-teenage-boy-is-better-than-yours-is" thing, but that the Justin fans were saying that "Diabetes isn't a big deal". That it didn't matter if Nick Jonas has diabetes, that it wasn't a life threatening illness and that it wasn't a problem. Then they began making fun of him for it.

KLetMeJustSay, RUDE. I have NEVER in all my life been so disgusted. And I have seen some pretty disgusting things. Let's pretend for a moment that it isn't a big deal and it doesn't matter. Why in the WORLD would you think it was funny to disrespect someone who has something he has to go through every day? Something he can't just wish away? Something that all the fame and money in the world won't take care of? Now let's restore reality. Diabetes IS a big deal. Dear Justin Bieber fans, do YOU have diabetes? Do you go through life with something taped to back that sticks you with a needle? Has that thing that sticks you with a needle ever stopped working and you had to shoot yourself in the leg with a tiny insulin gun? Have you ever had a day where your body was all out of whack and you just couldn't do anything because of it? If so, I'm terribly sorry. If not, don't tell me it isn't a big deal. Don't tell me it doesn't matter. And don't you dare tell me Nick Jonas is weak because he's stronger then you.

On to a happier part of this story. I love Nick, Fans love Nick, the Jonas Family loves Nick. Nick is a happy, healthy person. He is changing lives everyday. He is reaching out to people and giving them strength. He's giving them something to believe in and hope for. And he is inspiring children all over the world with Juvenile Diabetes. He is teaching people that they have to be stopped. That nothing has to be the end. Nick is teaching children with diabetes that they have the same strength he does and he's drawing it out of them. He's like their own little angel. I'm not saying he's perfect, I'm saying he's right.

If you have to believe in someone, Shoudn't it be Nick? Am I just biased? Please, let me know if you think this is an over-reaction.

***By the way, I do NOT think badly of ALL "beliebers". I respect anyone who has respect. If you had nothing to do with the Nick/diabetes bashing, PLEASE do not be offended.
****I wrote this last night when I was VERY tired and VERY upset about the things they were saying about Nick. Thanks to an anonymous comment, I have edited it some. If there is anything else that offends the polite bieber fans, please let me know.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://my-musical-notes.blogspot.com/2010/07/dear-nick-jonas-are-you-discouraged-yet.html' title='Dear Nick Jonas, Are you discouraged yet? (Obsessive Jonas Disorder) Yes, you know who you are. You are currently the minority of fan girls. Could it be that this "Jonas Obsession" is finally dying out? Can it be true that girls are taking down their hundreds of Jonas posters? Yes. It can be true. And what do you suppose these girls are replacing the Jonas Brothers with? None other then Usher's kid-off-the-Canadian-streets Justin Bieber.

Back in 2007, when the Jonas boys were putting out their second CD and becoming the most popular thing on the planet since NSYNC, no one thought they would last long. Just another boy band, they get their 15 minutes and then they go back to the obscurity they came from. When their 15 minutes were up and they were still the most popular thing on the planet, people began to worry. Many parents began asking questions like "Why are they still here?" and "Do we really have to go to a third concert?", and although they were complaining, we all knew that they were really thinking things like "Thank God it's not Eminem" and "I remember these days. I wonder where my record player is."

I remember standing in my kitchen one evening while my mom was reading me an article on the computer about how long the Jonas Brothers were supposed to have left in the spotlight. I believe the guess was until spring of 2008. Well he was...uhm...close? The fact of the matter is, The Jonas Brothers have been on borrowed time for the last two and a half years. It's sad that they must go. I really do have quite the attachment to them. (Not that I plan on getting rid of my posters or the several large tour books I have displayed around my room.)

In the last 5 years The Jonas Brothers have managed 4 albums, 2 TV movies, a Disney mini series, 2 concert movies, a spot in the second "Night at the Museum", their own TV series, several guest appearances on talk shows, (not to mention Nick pursuing his own solo career) and countless celebrity girlfriends. (They're only countless because so many of them were denied...Nick) And after all of that, all the fan loyalty, all the fights with the boys at school about whether they were gay or not, (admitting to a girlfriend could have helped you there Nick.) It's all over. Teenage girls everywhere are finally getting sick of them. Shocking I know, but to quote a Death Cab for Cutie song "Oh darling understand, That everything, everything ends."

Their recent TV series "JONAS" crashed and burned. At the end of it's first season the numbers were dismal. And what does Disney do when something is dismal? Put a smile on it so they can make more money. They created a spin-off series called "JONAS LA" and after the first episode premiere, Disney is still smelling smoke. Justin Bieber may be stealing all their viewers. I'm sure they are trying to come up with a way to get him his own Disney show.

So in the end, Justin Bieber trumps Jonas every time. Are you okay with it? Or are you beginning to long for the days when you couldn't walk out side your door with out seeing the face of Nick, Kevin or Joe?

American Idol Begins A New Chapter

American Idol is about to start it's 10th year on television and to celebrate they have released some information about this years audition. They have lowered the minimum auditioning age to 15 years old.

As time and music go on, artists are getting younger. American Idol changed the age requirements in order to have a wider range of talent. By allowing people 15 years of age to audition they have made it possible to "tap into" younger talent. Auditions kick off Saturday, July 19 in Nashville for ages 15 to 28. You can see a full list of audition stops here.

However, the present Idols are still hard at work getting ready for their summer tour kicking off July first. They began dress rehearsals yesterday (and no, Aaron Kelly is not taking his shirt off during "I'm a slave 4 U" or wrestling a python).

I Will Talk About American Idol Too Much

For the next few months I will be talking about the American Idols tour, the new albums they're working on, who got signed with who, and all that good stuff. I like to know what's going on with who at all times. Celebrity gossip is a good thing. If it's TRUE. More and more lately, people have come of up with more and more ridiculous stories, most of which have already been proven wrong. It's just annoying.

I'm a huge American Idol fan and some seasons just stick with me. Yes, I can still rattle off the top 12 from season 7 in order. (upon request. I don't just randomly repeat it.) So I know that as the competition goes on, rumors fly. Today, I am particularly annoyed about Lee DeWyze and Siobhan Magnus. I love them both and it isn't their fault people talk. This morning I found about 50 different reports about them dating, their "secret romance", their late night tattoo trip, and everything else under the sun. And while I was reading all this I thought, "I could swear to it that she had a boyfriend named Joe." Now, in all honesty, I have no idea if it's true that she had/has a boyfriend. However, I am a loyal fan and I choose to believe her, as well as Lee who has reported many times that he is single. (Crystal also commented on his single-ness.) What really was surprising to me was that the biggest argument for them dating in every article I read was that they hugged. Hugged! It was even like a random hug. Supposedly, off camera the night that Siobhan was voted off, Lee had been pacing around the stage. It's no secret that they are friends. Everyone on Idol becomes good friends, some closer than others, but all good friends. Then when Ryan Seacrest announced that she was going home, Lee was trying to get to her but the stage-hands wouldn't let him. To me, it just sounds like a lot of played up drama. Someone saw that Lee was a little upset and had to make a rumor out of it. Then when Siobhan finally made it to the remaining contestants, she hugged Lee first.

I don't know about you, but I feel like this just isn't hard hitting news. So there was a hug. So what? Whether they are dating or not doesn't really matter anymore. I'm more interested in where people got that idea! And what about Joe? Yeah, that's right, good ol' Joe. The boyfriend. Where does he come in? I started looking around and sure enough I found several articles on the SAME pages as the ones about her and Lee, saying that Siobhan Magnus had a boyfriend back home.

I may be making to big a deal out of this. It's very likely that I am, but it's annoying. It's gotten to the point that you NEVER know if the information is accurate even as it comes out of the persons own mouth. I myself, choose to believe them. Lee says he's single and Siobhan said she had a boyfriend. (and I would certainly NEVER doubt Crystal Bowersox.)

As far as the rumors go, I'm sure a lot more are about to hit the web and every magazine on the planet because of the video that the Los Angels Times posted on youtube yesterday. Siobhan and Lee were jokingly interviewing each other. Twice in the video Lee held Siobhan's hand for a few seconds while they were discussing things like his dead grandfather. The whole video was entertaining. They asked each other questions like "Kettle Corn or regular popcorn?" and "pogo stick or scooter?" You can watch the video here. Watching them, I think it's obvious that they are nothing but friends, but I could be wrong.

****I feel that I should address something due to some comments I have been getting. First of all: There is a 9 year age difference between me and Lee DeWyze. Second, (I believe I already mentioned this) I LOVE SIOBHAN. She a fantastic, amazing girl. Third: I don't think many of you have anymore information than I do, but if you do it's welcome. Fourth: I am not just a jealous fan girl hoping to get a shot with the American Idol. I am a plain and simple fan, interested in what's going on with my favorites and annoyed when people make things up about them. And last, just in case it isn't clear yet, this is not a hate post and this is not a hate blog. I believe in the good in people whether they are nice to their fans and can't sing at all or they are amazing singers with horrible attitudes. This is not hate against either Lee or Siobhan. I love them and all the other Idols.

Life Goes On

You want to know what I love most about country Music? Carrie Underwood. However, That is not what I'm talking about today. You want to know what I love most about country Music stars? Their lives don't stop because their famous. They get married, they have kids, they record an album every now and then, but LIFE GOES ON.

Do you ever feel like everyone famous is just frozen in time forever? Maybe they are. I was watching the CMT Music Awards the other night, and I saw Hayden Panettiere sitting next to Carrie Underwood. I started thinking, Carrie is getting married. She won American Idol about 5 years ago. She's just going on with her life, but Hayden, Who was already sort of famous, started on a hit T.V. show as a main character at about the same time, and she's exactly the same. Don't get me wrong, I love Hayden Panettiere.

Then Blake Shelton got on stage and started talking about his new album, and then about his upcoming wedding to another of favorite country girls, Miranda Lambert. I must say, I cannot wait to see pictures. But it's just another example, if you're a country star, your life doesn't just stop because you're famous.

I don't know why. I really don't. It could be that country isn't as popular. It could be that the stars themselves are smarter. It could be that country stars are older. I don't know, but I wish that all famous persons could behave this way. Because whether you're getting married and going on with your life, or you're frozen under your stage light, life will go on, with or without you. Enjoy the ride.

You hear what I'm saying, but do you understand it?

Okay, so. If you're really smart and really famous and your brother is getting married and your other brother never really did much but look pretty, is it time to go out on your own? Nick Jonas seemed to think so. His new solo CD "Who I Am" is really good. It's very different then the poppy, energetic music that we're so used to hearing from him. My worry about this all-grown-up sound is that not only is the music different, the lyrics and themes of the songs are very serious. The first song "Rose Garden" starts "She was brought into this world by a beautiful mistake, when her mom was just a girl and her daddy didn't stay". The CD is full of songs with pretty powerful messages, but are his fans picking up on them? He is after all, only 17 years old. His target audience seems to be much older then the pre-teen, boy band obsessed fans he picked up with The Jonas Brothers. They may know all the words, but do they understand? And more importantly, does he care?

What do you do when you've already done everything?

So you're 5'10, 20 years old, long blond curly hair, a love for sparkly dresses, and rose to the top of the music world very quickly. Taylor Swift has already won the CMA "Entertainer of the Year", won at the VMA's, been publicly slammed by a fellow performer, won big at the Grammys, and broken an award. She has basically gotten an award on every award show ever created. Anyone open "Rolling Stone" lately? Her album "Fearless" from 2008 is still at the top of the top 40 albums. Now I love Taylor, but really how many times can you make that shocked "OMG-thankyousomuch-ThisIsSoUnexpected!" face? Especially if you have already won EVERYTHING. You would think she would have stopped being surprised. In fact, you would expect her to be getting bored by now. Between shattering boy's hearts and writing songs about it, her album went platinum. She has already hugged Faith Hill, sung with Miley Cyrus, dated a Jonas Brother, what else is there? What is she going to do next now that she has done everything? Will she be forced into obscurity because there is nothing more for her to do? Or will she just continue to bounce around the top of the top 40 until they invent something new for her to win? I'm not even sure if I should wish her luck or not because I just don't know what's left. What I do know: The first single off Taylor's new album is due out late summer. Until then she has a new movie opening tomorrow called Valentine's Day. I'll be seeing it, will you?

Talents Beyond Hollywood

So it's not news that there are plenty of talented people on the internet. Most of them on youtube and myspace slowly working up a fan base. We all see these people, some even like them, but how often do you, say, tell a friend? Or post a link on your social networking site? Not very often I'm guessing. I know there are a few people who are very serious about these "smaller" people, they have seen every video, heard every song, and even told all of their friends about these people so many times they groan when they hear someone's name, but this group of people is very small. So my goal is to introduce you to some of my favorite people from youtube and myspace. I am even going to step outside of music for a moment to tell you about a few actresses. Are you ready? They are.

Brittani Louise Taylor is an actress that lives in California. She has tons of friends who are actors as well. She has two youtube channel's one for her and one for her imaginary friend Rhonda. Rhonda is a life coach who may or may not be on an illegal substance, although I'm fairly certain she just acts like it. I love her because she always reminds people to be themselves. She is funny but has a good sense of life. Her youtube channels are here: www.youtube.com/brittanilouisetaylor and www.youtube.com/rhondaanthonytanner

Another actress I am a big fan of is Lawrasaur. She lives in Florida. Besides her youtube channel she has a facebook page called "Skinny is NOT Perfection" devoted to the idea that girls don't have to be super skinny to be beautiful. Her videos are full of inspiration and jokes. You can check her youtube here: www.youtube.com/lawrasaur

As always, musicians are my favorite topic. This next person can sing, write and play guitar. Jasontyler lives in Florida and his deep lyrics are inspiring for so many reasons. He is the singer for his own band. He uses myspace to show off his talent, which is abundant. He may be just a seventeen year old kid, but he has the skills to be a great musician. You can check out his myspace, as well as his band's here: www.myspace.com/jasontylerxx www.myspace.com/jaydenfl

Of course I must mention the lovely Sarah Daniels. This Lady GaGa lover who does covers of songs on her youtube was recently featured in a commercial for the Grammys. She works at Disney and Universal studios and names all of her instruments. She has a personality that is instantly lovable. You can see her sing here: www.youtube.com/officialsarahdaniels

Last but of course not least, is Lost Cassette Tapes. His name? Cameron Fox. His thing? MUSIC. He's a musician on myspace and youtube. He writes his songs whenever he's inspired and then records them to share with the world. You can check out his myspace and youtube accounts here: www.myspace.com/lostcassettetapes www.youtube.com/lostcassettetapes

So they're all very talented, yes. But the coolest thing about them is definitely that they are all just people. People doing what they love, and are good at. So it's up to you. Will they make it? No one knows. Are you going to help them try? I know I am. Tell your friends, your family, co workers, and random people you meet at the grocery store. Every time you listen to a song or watch a video and every time you tell someone about these people it helps. Please don't just think of them as singers or actresses, talk to them. Send them messages and comments, show them love. Thank you for reading and thank you for giving these people a chance. I hope you enjoy them. Remember, there's plenty more where they came from.

Pop Stars, Haters, and Justin Bieber.

Okay, so you may or may not know Justin Bieber is one of the most popular teen artists in the music world right now, and like many other stars before him, Justin has has haters. I know what you're thinking, "Oh haters, what else is new?" I thought the same thing when I saw the J-14 article on his "Nasty Haters". Now, of course, I was expecting the usual "his voice sucks" and "he sounds like a girl" like so many people say about anyone getting attention for their talent, but what I wasn't prepared for was the really very scary things people have to say, all sorts of death threats and rumors of things like Justin committing suicide. It really got me thinking about the reasons behind these people's hostility.

Now obviously, Justin isn't dead, and he didn't fake breaking his foot, but most importantly, in the middle of all the hate, he isn't fighting back. I'm sure the slams on his music, voice, and him himself get a little old, and certainly frustrating, but he never feels the need to stand up for himself. Really, why would you when you have so many adoring fans, hit songs, and you're currently living your dream every day.

So, why do people hate on Justin Bieber and other people like Miley Cyrus, The Jonas Brothers, and Taylor Swift? Because these people are doing something with their talents. People who haven't discovered their talent, and people who don't know how to follow their dreams choose to destroy people who can. It's not right, and they shouldn't do it. Hating isn't going to change anything. For example, Justin has millions of fans all over the world. Telling people you don't like him won't change that. Just guessing, but Justin doesn't probably doesn't like his haters much either, and he isn't telling the world that their voices are terrible.

On a different note, Justin Bieber IS a fantastic singer and he DOES have talent. He is a very down to earth kid. He is only 15 years old and he talks to so many fans, and always has a hug for them. He has made many famous friends like Usher, Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez. And the second part of his album "My World" is coming out very soon. I think that it's clear, haters or no haters, we can expect BIG things from him.

Adam Lambert: Discriminated Against or Gone to Far?

Adam Lambert performed at the American Music Awards on Sunday night. After his performance of "For Your Entertainment" ABC's "Good Morning America" canceled his upcoming performance. Many people were outraged at Lamberts' sexual display, while others were only upset because they feel he is being discriminated against. Lamberts performance included men on leashes, a make out session with his key-board player, and a simulation of oral sex. He claims that he "had fun and so did his back up dancers". Lambert seems to feel that if it had been women (for example Britney Spears and Madonna) they would have gotten away with it and he is being discriminated against for being gay. What he doesn't seem to understand is that it wasn't the kiss that got under peoples skin, but the men on leashes and him shoving a dancers face into his crotch. Dick Clark Productions did not seem to know what Adam had planned. However, an interveiw on the red carpet let slip that Lambert may have known what was going to take place on the stage the whole time. Most people agree that whether he is proud to be gay or not, he did NOT display it properly. So the question seems to be: Did Adam Lambert get discriminated against or did he take the performance to far? You can see peices of the performance on CNN at this link. http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/Music/11/24/adam.lambert.gma/index.html

When Big Stars Make Bigger Mistakes

Taylor Swift won an award for "best female music video" last night at the 2009 MTV Music Video Awards. She was just about to make her acceptance when Kanye West jumped on the stage and took her microphone. Taylor looked startled and upset as Kanye stated that "Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time." Video of Kanye West interrupting Taylor Swift's Acceptance. After his little interruption, Kanye West was escorted out of the building and his performance canceled.

A little while later, when Beyonce won an award for "best video of the year", (doesn't Kanye feel stupid) she said she remembered when she was up for her first VMA and asked that Taylor Swift come back to the stage and take Beyonce's spotlight. Later that night, Kanye's blog had a post about how sorry he was for his outburst and said that he realized that his actions were wrong.

So I don't know about you, but I would just like to say that Kanye was very wrong to take the spotlight from someone who did indeed deserve the award she won. I think that, although Beyonce had a fine video, all she really did was stand and dance, whereas Taylor had a very well planned out video that told a story. Just so everyone is clear: I do not hate Beyonce or Kanye West, I would just like to make sure that it is clear what he did was wrong and that Taylor won the award fair and square. I wish the best of luck to Taylor Swift, Beyonce, and Kanye West. I am very proud of how both Taylor and Beyonce handled themselves and the fact that Kanye realized what he had done and apologized.

The Explanation

Music. Music is the single most important thing in my life. There is hardly ever a time that there is not music playing in the house, the car, outside on the swing, or pretty much anywhere I go that my iPod can follow. I have one rule about music, and that rule is: Don't judge the music by the artist.

You may not like the singer, but that doesn't mean you can't like the song. I love all music, and I love to discover new artists and songs of all genres. I hope to share my love of music with everyone and introduce people to new artists and music.
